Big update for UP electricity consumers, problem will be resolved in 2 months

Next year, the people of the state will not have to face power crisis in the scorching heat. By June, the production of 5,280 MW of electricity will increase in the state. Out of this, due to the commencement of production from 1980 MW thermal projects by November, there will be plenty of electricity available during Diwali.

In fact, the foundation stone of three thermal projects of 4620 MW was laid in the year 2016 during the SP government and one thermal project of 660 MW in the year 2018 under the Yogi government. Of these, three projects of 3300 MW (Obra C, Jawaharpur and Panki Extension) belong to the Uttar Pradesh State Power Generation Corporation Limited, while the 1980 MW Ghatampur project is a joint venture of the State Power Generation Corporation with the Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited.

OPS: Now the old pension scheme of the employees will never be implemented

There are eight units of 660 MW each in all the four thermal projects. Out of these, except for one unit of 660 MW of Panki expansion project, the production of electricity should have started in the previous tenure of the Yogi government itself, but due to various reasons, even after seven years, the state has not received electricity from any unit of the project. The meeting has not started. In such a situation, where the people of the state are facing power crisis in the scorching heat, the power corporation management has to buy expensive electricity from energy exchange to deal with the crisis to some extent.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s tough stand on the delay in the projects resulted in the work being accelerated that power generation from three units of 1980 MW capacity will start before Diwali. Four more units of 2640 MW will start producing electricity by the end of the current financial year and another unit of 660 MW by the summer of next year. Additional Chief Secretary Energy Mahesh Kumar Gupta said that the work on all the projects is going on fast. Next year, electricity generation will start from all of them before summer.

State Power Generation Corporation’s Managing Director P. Guru Prasad said that the first unit of 660 MW of 1320 MW Obra Sea project will start producing electricity in August, while the second unit of 660 MW will start getting power by March. The first unit of 1320 MW Jawaharpur project will start producing power in September and the second in December.

According to Prasad, out of the three units of the Ghatampur project, the first unit of 660 MW will start producing electricity before Deepawali this year, while the second unit will start producing electricity by March next year and the third unit by June. The 660 MW Panki expansion project will also start getting electricity by March next year. The Managing Director said that while 100 per cent power of all the three projects would be available to the people of the state, the state would get only 85 per cent of the total power generated from the Ghatampur project.
