World Cup opening ceremony on October 4: Discussions to be held at Narendra Modi Stadium itself

The opening ceremony of the ODI World Cup to be held in India will be held in Ahmedabad on October 4. It is not yet decided where the opening ceremony will be held in the city, but discussions are on to organize it at the Narendra Modi Stadium itself.
The opening match between England and New Zealand will also be played in the same stadium the next day. Both the teams had also met in the final of the last ODI World Cup in 2019.
The World Cup will be played in 10 cities of India from 5 October to 19 November. The opening and final match of the tournament will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
This time the World Cup will be played in the round-robin format like last time. 10 teams will participate in the tournament. The captains of all the 10 teams will be present in Ahmedabad during the opening ceremony. The International Cricket Council (ICC) will also hold a small formal session of all the captains in the ‘Captain’s Day’ event. ICC Executive Board members will also be present in the opening ceremony. Along with the ICC, the executive board members of the host Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will also be part of the opening ceremony.
During the opening ceremony, the captains of the 6 teams will have to reach Ahmedabad in a hurry as the 6 teams will be playing warm-up matches in some other city on October 3, a day before the ceremony. In such a situation, the captains of these teams will have to leave for Ahmedabad as soon as the match is over. On the other hand, the captains of the remaining 4 teams will reach Ahmedabad on the morning of 4th October itself.
On October 3, warm-up matches will be played between India-Netherlands in Thiruvananthapuram, Australia-Pakistan in Hyderabad and Sri Lanka-Afghanistan in Guwahati. That is, Captain Rohit Sharma from India, Scott Edwards from Netherlands, Pat Cummins from Australia, Babar Azam from Pakistan, Dasun Shanaka from Sri Lanka and Hasmatullah Shahidi from Afghanistan will have to reach Ahmedabad as soon as the match is over.
The ODI World Cup is being held in Asia after 12 years. Earlier in 2011, the World Cup was jointly hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Then the opening ceremony was held in Dhaka city of Bangladesh. To give a glimpse of Asia, the captains of all the teams were brought to the stage on rickshaws. A similar atmosphere can be seen this time also on 4th October.
