new Delhi: The Supreme Court has expressed displeasure over stubble burning not being stopped in Punjab despite court orders. The court said that why should the farmers who are burning stubble get any financial benefit? Apart from registering FIR and imposing fine on those who have burnt stubble, such farmers should also be deprived of the benefits of MSP. The government should do something so that there is no hit in their pockets.
Give details of fine on next date
Commenting on the attitude of the Punjab government in stopping stubble burning, the court said that when Haryana can do it then why can’t Punjab do it? The court told the Punjab government that it will tell on the next date how many farmers it fined for burning stubble and how much was recovered from it?
Forget politics and find long term solution
The court again today said that there should be no politics on this issue. Accusing each other or comparing one with the other should not be done. The central government and the state should forget politics and find long-term solutions. These observations, suggestions and orders were given by the bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia during the hearing on the case of air pollution in Delhi NCR.
What is the condition of stubble burning in your place?
As soon as the hearing started, the court asked the Advocate General of Punjab, what is the condition of stubble burning in your place? The Advocate General said that after the court order, a meeting was held with the Cabinet Secretary of the concerned states. There should be a schedule to implement whatever is decided in that meeting.
