By 31st August 2023 Rs.  93% of 2000 notes returned to banks

The Reserve Bank of India has said in a statement that on May 19, the day it was decided to withdraw Rs 2,000 notes from circulation, 93 per cent of the Rs 2,000 notes in circulation were returned to the banks.

In a statement issued by RBI, it has been said that according to the data received from banks, the total value of Rs 2,000 notes returned till August 31, 2023 is Rs 3.32 lakh crore.

RBI has further said that the value of Rs 2000 notes in circulation as on August 31, 2023 was only Rs 0.24 lakh crore. That means, out of the Rs 2,000 notes in circulation on May 19, 93 have returned.

According to the information received from the banks, out of the 2000 rupee notes that have been returned, 87 percent of the notes have been deposited in the bank account while 13 percent of the notes have been exchanged.

The value of Rs 2,000 notes in circulation on March 31, 2023 was Rs 3.62 lakh crore. Which decreased to Rs 3.56 lakh crore on May 19, 2023, the day of the announcement of withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes. Which further reduced to 0.24 lakh crores on 31 August 2023. Please tell that the last date for depositing or exchanging 2000 rupee notes in the bank account is 30 September 2023.
